Monday Market Update: American Housing Survey ~ Why Buyers Move

“If you’re brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello.” (Paul Coelho) We can all agree that home really is where the heart is, and that is often why moving on from a home you adore is such a hard, hard decision. But because I don’t want you to miss an opportunity to get a little closer to the life you dream of, I wanted to share the top reasons why people move as reported by 2017 American Housing Survey (AHS).

The top 4 reasons why people move are really all about getting closer to your dreams!

| 55% of buyers move for a better home

| 46% of buyers move for a better neighborhood

| 39% of buyers move to form a household

| 22% of buyers move to be closer to family

While that data may not make the process of moving any easier, it certainly makes it seem more rewarding, right?

Other reasons for moving as reported by AHS are:

| 19% move to reduce housing costs (I see this commonly in downsizers!)

| 18% move because of a change in household (empty nesters, divorce, more children)

| 14% move because of a job (hey – when opportunity knocks, why not answer?!)

| 12% move to reduce commute (quality of life is key)

| 3% are forced to move (often seen with illness or job loss)

| 17% move for other reasons (often a combo of lifestyle factors and life circumstances)

If, why and where you decide to move are all very personal decisions. My hope is that when the time is right to make this determination, you know that you have a trusted agent who is here to listen and create a strategy based on your needs. You deserve to be where you want and need to be, and my job is to make sure I do everything I can to make it happen!

All my best,
