Monday Market Update: How Silicon Valley Started The Year

Can you believe that the first month of 2020 is already behind us? While January felt like a long month (those 31 days sort of felt like 300 right?!), perhaps it was because so much has happened! Rates rocking those 3-year lows, FICO score changes, a jump in consumer confidence… and those are just the tip of the iceberg regarding big picture trends. On a more local level, Silicon Valley has already had its share of hot headlines… and this week we have chosen three of them to share with you!

6 Bay Area Start-Ups / $160 Million In Funding

The last week of the first month of the new decade was a big one with regards to funding rounds for Bay Area start-ups. Companies headquartered in San Mateo, San Francisco, South San Francisco and San Jose raised from $4 million to $80 million, plus the Bay Area saw it’s first IPO of the year on Friday as 1Life Healthcare Inc., experienced its first day of trading!

20 Projects Taking Big Steps In 2020

The Silicon valley Business Journal reported earlier this month that “more construction is set to begin in downtown San Jose than at any time in recent memory.” As the Bay Area’s largest city and future anticipated home to Google San Jose, it would be unwise to ignore the growth and development that this Silicon Valley center will see in 2020. One analysis of 20 commercial projects predicts that we will see construction commence and/or continue on 3,000 residential units, 4.2 million square feet of office space and 69,400 square feet of retail space in downtown San Jose alone.

Silicon Valley In The Sports Spotlight

Let’s face it… what kind of Silicon Valley patriots could we be if we did NOT mention the fact that the 49ers made it to the Super Bowl! By the time this post is read by all… the winners will be wearing their rings! But alas we are as much about the journey as we are about the outcome, and we would like to thank the Niners for helping Silicon Valley start 2020 on a high note. Because sports is a game but also a business, we wanted to point you towards an article that compares the  championships , average ticket prices, operating incomes  and more of the two teams that made it all the way!
