This Memorial Day may be recognized in a different manner than years past – but that does not mean that those whom we honor deserve any less reverence. We may not be able to have remembrance ceremonies, parades or celebratory social barbecues – but we can always have gratitude!
This day and truly every day, we are more than thankful to those who have lost their lives defending our country and the people within it, and thinking of the families whom carry on their legacy. It has also come to our attention that this time of year can be particularly challenging for military survivors, and we wanted to let you know about an Arlington-based non-profit that can help.
TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program For Survivors) offers help, hope and healing to all who are grieving the death of a military loved one, regardless of the relationship to the service member or the circumstances or cause of death. Designed to serve as a family of care, compassion and hope, TAPS strives to provide a shoulder to cry on, a connection to resources, or an opportunity to remember and honor your loved one. Explore their various programs HERE.
With regard to the isolation, fear and loss being experienced by first responders, healthcare workers and citizens across the nation during COVID-19, TAPS has now opened up all of their comfort and care resources to the public. Learn more HERE.
(While we do not have personal experience with the TAPS network and cannot endorse their programming, they are a top-rated program on Charity Navigator [4 out of 4 stars]. They have also been awarded the Platinum Nonprofit Seal of Transparency from GuideStar, and have been certified by Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service, as a Service Enterprise.)
As we take a moment to pause, reflect and express our gratitude to military lives lost, may we also take a moment to consider how our daily actions and choices honor their sacrifice. I know I will… and that is what I am looking forward to most this week.
All my best,
