Did you know that June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month? There are 50 million people around the world living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. As the 6th leading cause of death, there are countless advocates and health organizations who are working extremely hard every day towards widespread awareness and national policy movements that would positively impact the quality of life, care and prevention of this devastating disease.
In addition, an AARP-sponsored venture titled ‘My Alzheimer’s Road Trip’ made it’s third stop today as part of an 8-city tour to create a video documentary of Alzheimer’s patients, their families and caregivers. As the second endeavor of documentary filmmakers Zach Jordan and Peter Schankowitz, this project follows their first project, Carpe Kilimanjaro: An Alzheimer’s Story, which ‘captured Jordan experiencing his own father’s death in 2012 from Alzheimer’s — and his family’s reaction to the disease’ (AARP). With a goal of removing the stigma associated with this condition, improving perspective, contributing to research and giving a platform to the diverse voices of the disease, we encourage you to follow the live Facebook feeds HERE and learn more on the MyAlzheimers website.
On behalf of every individual, family and loved one who has been impacted by this disease, we have listed some additional resources on this critically important topic. Thank you truly to all of the caregivers, memory health champions, scientific researchers and community members who have joined in this cause.
