Happy 2023! May Your New Year Bring New Inspiration

Resolutions are a great way to start the year – but not the only way!

Happy, Happy New Year! As you write your first chapter of 2023, we hope that you are filled with comfort and hope. While we should never take for granted being content with what we have, there is also something incredibly fulfilling in striving to do more, be more and help more.

While the tradition of New Year’s resolutions is a great one, it is not the only way to frame the hopes you have for 2023. Here are 3 additions and/or alternatives…

#1: A Gratitude Journal

Did you know there is an actual science behind gratitude? A 2015 study published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology has directly linked feelings of gratitude to activity in the cingulate cortex and medial prefrontal cortex. Ultimately this means that recognizing the good in our lives can lead to better sleep, more empathy, less burnout, and more satisfying relationships. You can read more about gratitude journaling here, and also find specific actions for real estate agents from Real Trends in this recent article

#2: Choose A ‘Nudge’ Word

The Washington Post has a great recommendation that they call the ‘anti-resolution resolution.” The concept is based on choosing a word that captures the mind-set you want to adopt in 2023 — a word that will nudge you toward positive change whenever you think of it. It is NOT a specific goal such as lose 20 pounds or save more money; it is the idea that you pick one word that defines how you want to live in 2023. #3: Make A Balanced Business Plan

Business planning is nothing new but refreshing and reprioritizing can keep you from getting stuck in a rut. While many business plans focus only on sales goals and activities, more comprehensive versions allow for both personal and professional priorities. In a NAR® read, real estate speaker, trainer, and author Monica Reynolds advises 5 steps to follow in plan creation. Notably in #2, she states to ‘circle your days off’ and be sure to ‘prioritize your family… and don’t put them last.’ Get familiar with all 5 parts here

No matter what you have planned for 2023, we all know that part of that plan is to expect the unexpected. When my health and life took a turn 18 months ago, it was hard to accept my plans had to seriously change. But making new plans and identifying new goals kept me moving forward, even when it felt like the world had stopped. Please be gentle to yourself when things change and show yourself the same grace you would to others in that situation.

Cheers to 2023,
