Monday Market Update: 3 Home Hacks To Lessen Stress

April is Stress Awareness Month; the place you spend the most time should be the least source of stress. Here’s how…

Your home should be your sanctuary. Yet we all know that working from home, managing life stressors and dealing with home maintenance can take a toll no matter how much you love where you live. This week, we wanted to share 3 quick & easy ways to reduce stress in your home inspired by a recent read from The Spaces.

Bring In Biophilic Design Elements: Put simply, biophilic design is bringing nature into your space. This is an actual well-being practice which is evidenced as far back as Egyptians tombs and the ruins of Pompeii. One study has found that the just looking at the color green reduces your heart rate! Adding greenery can be done via the addition of indoor plants, a foliage-printed throw pillow or blanket or even a green accent wall.

Be Aware of Light: Bright light can intensify feelings; blue light can increase alertness (but also suppress melatonin!) and natural light can combat depression. Take a walk through the different rooms in your home in different times of day. Consider where lighter or darker window treatments, yellow vs. soft white bulbs and dimmers can play a role in reducing anxiety.

Sleep Well: Far easier said than done, the best thing you can do for your body is to get a good night’s rest. The Sleep Council states that uncomfortable beds can reduce sleep by an hour each night. If your mattress is more than 7 years old, if you are experiencing more aches & pains or if you just are not sleeping well – consider a new mattress, a mattress topper or new pillows.

Wishing you a relaxing week…
