Monday Market Update: 5 Home Décor Trends That Are Out (And 3 That Are In!)

Good-bye shiplap, hello terrazzo countertops!

Happy August! The last month of summer is here and with that we wanted to share some design trends to take you into fall and beyond. With most summer vacations behind us and more cozy days at home ahead of us, we felt it was timely and relevant to share the latest ‘out vs. in’ style ideas courtesy of Realtor.com. We have created simple, easy-to-scan lists below, and we encourage you read ‘Hot or Not? We Trace the Rise and Fall of America’s Most Popular Home Design Trends’ for all the details!

WHAT’S OUT

1) Omnipresent Open Floor Plans (Working, schooling and holding Zoom calls in one room got really old, really fast!)

2) Rose Gold (Replaced by mixed metals and a return to the rotating classics of silver & gold)

3) Shiplap (What was a farmhouse style must is now being called a ‘tacky wood paneling’ must-not!)

4) Concrete Countertops (Too heavy, too hard to apply and too absorbent)

5) Chalkboard Paint (Not enough bang for the labor intensive buck)

WHAT’S IN

1) Maintenance Free Design Elements (Goodbye all white!)

2) Terrazzo (Say yes to sustainable speckles made of recycled materials for floors, countertops, walls and even furniture)

3) Wallpaper (There is even a whiteboard type ideal for home offices and kids room!)
