Monday Market Update: Halloween Safety Is Critical

Here are some top tips to ensure that the last day of October is a super fun & safe end to the month!

Did you know that Halloween is considered the most dangerous day of the year for our youth? The National Safety Council reports that children are more than 2x likely be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Lack of visibility because of low lighting at night play a factor in these incidents, along with the unusual amount of pedestrian traffic and children out in the streets as they excitedly charge from house to house!

The NSC offers these safety tips for anyone who plans to be on the road during trick-or-treat hours:

● Watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs

● Enter and exit driveways and alleys carefully

● At twilight and later in the evening, watch for children in dark clothing

● Discourage new, inexperienced drivers from driving on Halloween

For families, please remember to:

● Check if costumes, wigs and accessories are fire-resistant

● Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags and/or give your children glow sticks

● Opt for nontoxic Halloween makeup over masks, which can obscure vision

● Instruct children to travel only in familiar, well-lit areas and stick with their friends

Thank you for helping keep our neighborhoods safe!

Happy, Happy Halloween!
