Monday Market Update: National Preparedness Month Resources

The ‘Start A Conversation’ campaign encourages us to talk to our friends & neighbors – now.

September is almost over… and what you may not know is that it’s National Preparedness Month. We are entering a Bay Area heat advisory and facing associated wildfire risks, plus drawing closer to ‘Great ShakeOut Day’ on October 17th in preparation for earthquakes. Yet ideally we should be prepared for anything & everything at any time of year – and that is what National Preparedness Month encourages us to do.

Ready.gov, the official website of the US Department of Homeland Security, has defined the 2024 preparedness month theme as ‘Start A Conversation.’ This concept centers around starting conversations with our family, friends and neighbors to take steps to get ready and stay safe. Tips include:

- Set aside a time when everyone is calm and relaxed.

- Hold the discussions over a set time period, so decisions aren’t rushed, and people feel more comfortable talking about the topic.

- Talk about steps you’ve taken to prepare and encourage others to ask questions about preparedness actions that might work for them.

We encourage you to review the fact sheet below, and to review your own emergency supplies, evacuation plan and discuss meeting plans with your loved ones. (Don’t forget to prepare for your pets during emergencies too! )

Stay safe, be ready… and check in with those around you! We are all in this together.
