Monday Market Update: 9 Best Places To Live In California

Guess which Silicon Valley city made the list?

In the spirit of summer vacation mode, our Monday Market Update this week is based on some fun and informative information from Travel + Leisure Magazine! Published just days ago, the article titled ‘9 Best Places to Live in California' shares highlights as to why our state is such a desirable place to live – despite having the 3rd highest cost of living in the nation (after Hawaii and Massachusetts!).

The Draw

Even before the Gold Rush, California has drawn residents on account of its scenery, climate and natural resources. Travel + Leisure states that, “Today, residents are attracted by career opportunities in the state’s major cities, the diverse population, the variety of lifestyles, and the moderate weather in most parts of the state.” From 840 miles of coastline to towering redwoods to rugged cliffs to farmlands and wine regions – we are fortunate enough to live in a place that has it all!

The Plus Side

Did you know that the benefit for retirees in California is that Social Security benefits are not taxed, plus the state has many world-renowned healthcare facilities such as UCSF Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and Stanford Health Care.

The Top 9

As Travel + Leisure narrowed down the most desirable areas of our state to include a town and community to for most needs – here are the 9 places they came up with:

1. Sacramento

2. La Quinta

3. Paso Robles

4. Redondo Beach

5. Sunnyvale

6. Temecula

7. Lodi

8. San Diego

9. Big Bear Lake

The Silicon Valley City

As you can see from the list above, the Silicon Valley city that made the list is…. Sunnyvale! With an A+ grade by Niche designated by high-ranking public schools, well-rounded family living and opportunities for nightlife, Sunnyvale is known for its sense of community. A walkable downtown, farmers markets, parks and hiking are just as desirable as the city's proximity to major tech employers (think Apple, Google, LinkedIn, Meta, and Amazon).

So what do you think? Is there a city you think should have been in the top 9 best places to live in our state? Do you think a different Silicon Valley city should have made the cut? Feel free to share – anytime!

All our best,
