Monday Market Update: A World With & Without The MLS (Infographic)

Do you know why the MLS exists – and what the real estate industry would look like without it? 

MLS. Multiple Listing Service. Anyone who has ever bought or sold a home or worked in the industry has heard this term. But do you know how the MLS came to be? What the benefits are? What transactions would look like if it did not exist?


Today’s Monday Market Update features a brand new infographic from  the National Association of Realtors (NAR)® that reveals ‘The MLS In Action’ and compares what the housing market would look like with & without it. 

BACKGROUND: According to Realty Biz, “…it was in the late 1800s when the MLS was first developed. Realtors would meet at the offices of their local association and share with one another information about the properties they were trying to sell. It’s a nice story which foregrounds the legitimacy of the National Association, and the necessity of an MLS. It is this principle of collaboration which makes the MLS so unique, and really distinguishes the real estate industry from others. Unlike in any other competitive market, Realtors work together to help sell each other’s stock. Everyone is happy, and everyone gets paid.”
