Monday Market Update: Earth Day & Most Eco-Friendly Cities

Six out of the nation’s top ten cities are in California!

April 22nd is… Earth Day! It would be impossible to appreciate the air we breathe, the ground we walk on and the places we live in without acknowledging what makes it all possible – planet Earth! The 2024 theme for Earth Day is Planets vs. Plastics – and you can read more about that here. But for the purposes of home and lifestyle (which is why our readers are here!), we wanted to share some data from Realtor.com® on the most eco-friendly listings in the United States.

Realtor.com® recently ranked and shared the top 10 metropolitan areas with the most eco-friendly real estate listings. All ranked cities are in the West & Southwest, and 6 out of 10 are in California! Wallet Hub confirms that the Golden State is the ‘king of the greenest states’ based on the lowest overall energy consumption per capita and the second highest number of alternative fuel stations per capita.

Here is the list of the cities with the ‘greenest listings’; the percentage after the city and state refers to how many homes for sale describe eco-friendly features and boast sustainable descriptive terms.

Do any of these cities surprise you? Be sure to consider that cities with more newer homes are likely to have more of the modern, earth-friendly features. Those that have been newly renovated may also have more green-based additions such as artificial lawn, energy efficient heating & cooling systems and of course solar power.
