Monday Market Update: Home Eye Safety Month Is Here

Most people don’t know that the risk of eye injuries is highest at home!

October is here and with a new month brings a new awareness topic relating to our most sacred place: home! Did you know that 2.4 million eye injuries occur in the US every year, with more eye accidents at home than anywhere else? Over 125,000 of these eye injuries are caused by common household cleaning products, while home improvement project, cooking and yard work are responsible for 40% of eye-related accidents.

The really GOOD news: 90% of eye injuries can be prevented simply by wearing protective eyewear. If you do nothing else in honor of #HomeEyeSafetyMonth, please purchase a pair of protective eyewear and use them! While we cannot personally endorse any product, we encourage you to do your research and review top protective eyewear ranking from sources such as Bob Vila, The Spruce and NY Times.

*The American Academy of Ophthalmology urges every household to have at least one pair of ANSI-approved protective eyewear. (“ANSI-approved” means the protective eyewear is made to meet safety standards of the American National Standards Institute.)

Find a checklist from PreventBlindness.org here regarding ways to stay safe in each area of your home.

Best wishes for an amazing October,
