Monday Market Update: Today’s FTHBs [Infographic]

This new infographic from NAR® reveals the ‘anatomy’ of a first-time home buyer – check it out!

Did you know that first-time home buyers account for 34% of all home purchases in the US, up from 31% last year? This is just one of the many insights released in NAR®’s annual report ‘Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers.’

The infographic below reveals some of the data with regards to who the FTHBs are and what type of home they are buying.

In addition:

- The typical first-time buyer was 33 years old this year, while the typical repeat-buyer age rose to an all-time high of 56 years old.

- 11% of home buyers purchased a multi-generational home, to take care of aging parents, because of children over the age of 18 moving back home, and for cost-saving.

- 14% of recent home buyers were veterans and 3% were active-duty service members.

You can read more highlights here. Note that this data of course pertains to a typical buyer in the United States, which is very different than here in Silicon Valley. For that information your local Bay Area real estate agent is your best source of data! ;)
