Monday Market Update: Vacant Land Scam Awareness

MLS Listings shares 7 red flags related to vacant land listings.

"Buy land, they're not making it anymore." - Mark Twain

If you are in the market to purchase vacant land or know someone who is, we encourage you to stay aware of a national scam alert from the MLS Listings involving undeveloped lots and land parcels. The San Mateo County Association of Realtors® has recently shared that this fraudulent activity surfaced in early 2023 and is once again maneuvering through our local markets here in Silicon Valley as well.

The MLS Listings has developed the ‘7 Red Flags’ related to this topic below. While originally designed for agents, we are republishing this infographic on our blog for those industry members who follow our blog (thank you!) and to keep consumers aware and informed of the challenges facing the market today.

We do not want to promote nor instill fear, we simply want to empower you with knowledge to protect yourself, to ask deep questions and expect transparency. If something does not feel right when you see a listing or make an inquiry, or if you are an agent whose listing has been tampered with, please alert the MLS.

If you discover your listing is fraudulent, please contact your broker and MLSListings Compliance at Compliance@MLSListings.com immediately.
