Senior Spotlight: Baby Boomers Rank As Top Travelers

See senior trip trends & vacation preferences in our NEW blog!

The arrival of spring, the first heat wave, the time change… if all of these things do not point to summer on the way – then we are not sure what does! As we welcome the newest season and longer days, many of us also start thinking ahead to summer and fall vacations! That’s why this week our blog is inspired by a recent article from Fodor’s titled “Boomers Still Travel More and Spend More Than Other Generations.”

The article summarizes data from a just-published (March 20, 2026) report by YouGov that reveals how Baby Boomers are shaping travel demand. Here are the top 10 take-a-ways from the surveys conducted:

#1: 37% of Boomers say they take multiple trips per year, compared to 33% of younger generations.

#2: 27% of Boomers spend at least $1,000/person per trip, compared to 21% of non-Boomers.

#3: 24% of Boomers prefer cruises vs. 17% of other ages.

#4: 50% of Baby Boomers prefer beach vacations! The next most popular spots include lakes, mountains, the countryside and sightseeing locations.

#5: Top US Boomer travel destinations are Hawaii, Florida, Arizona & Las Vegas.

#6: Top international Boomer travel destinations are Canada, Ireland & Italy.

#7: Destination preferences for Baby Boomers tend to blend cultural and geographic familiarity with well-established tourism infrastructure.

#8: Boomers are less likely to seek the vacation types of: city breaks, amusement parks, camping, event trips and activity/sporting-based trips.

#9: Boomers are also less likely than other generations to travel to South Korea, China, the Maldives, Malaysia and Thailand.

#10: Other notable Boomer travel trends include taking trips to see friends & family, prioritizing convenience of flights over cost savings and higher usage of a travel agent (human touch!) vs. AI or travel apps to plan routes.

The most important question remains – where do you want to go this year? Do you prioritize your travel based on who you want to see or where you want to go?

Happy trails…
