Our new blog features facts about women in real estate & as homeowners!

Happy March! This is the season when we spring forward (those clocks jump forward this weekend!), start to see flowers bloom and celebrate Women’s History Month! People Magazine offers a great overview of what Women’s History Month is and why we celebrate it here. But for our purposes, we wanted to share 10 fun and fabulous facts about women in the real estate industry and as homeowners!

10 Facts About Women & Housing


1. Most residential REALTORS® are women (over 66%), but they are less represented in executive roles.


2. The commercial real estate industry is comprised of only 36.7% women.


3. 7 women have been elected as NAR® Presidents.


4. The American Land & Title Association (ALTA) was first established in 1907 – and was called the American Association of Title Men. The name changed to be inclusive in 1923 , but ALTA did not have it’s first female President until 2000.


5. The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards reports that 2 in 5 new architects are women.


6. 3  out of 17 Secretaries of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development have been women. Two served in the 1970’s, and the current HUD Secretary is female.


7. Women’s median weekly earnings are only 83% of men’s; however, single women own 2.71 million more homes than single men.

 

8. Women were not allowed to finance a home purchase without a male co-signer until the 1970’s.


9. States with the largest share of single women homeowners are Delaware, Louisiana and Mississippi.


10. Single women are more likely to own a home than single men in 48 out of 50 states.
