Monday Market Update: No Renovation Necessary

5 ways you can refresh without a remodel.

Real Simple magazine published an article last week very true to its name, with a read based on 5 very simple ‘rules’ to reinvigorate your home this year without a remodel. While the groundhog may have spoken today that there will be 6 more weeks of winter, these ideas can transform your living and sleeping spaces in this season and carry you well into spring and summer.

Here are 5 ways that serve as “Proof that a few good habits can out-design a full renovation.” (Real Simple, January 27, 2025, Arlyn Hernandez)

#1: Finish a Room (and We Mean All the Way): Add that area rug, hang the curtains, buy the accent pillows. One completed room feels amazing and may inspire you to do the rest!

#2: Dedicate Funds to One Impactful Upgrade: Few of us can afford to buy all new living room furniture, but a distinctive coffee table or statement sectional can be the ‘it’ factor. For a kitchen or bath pick one upgrade alone such as all new hardware or swapping tiles for single surface slab.

#3: Turn an Everyday Chore Into a Ritual: This ‘no-cost’ upgrade is a daily routine you add to elevate your lifestyle. Turning on 2 lamps per room at five o’clock or re-setting your living room when you go to bed so you wake up to a fresh space can really add a positive baseline to all that is not as predictable.

#4: Edit What You Have Before You Buy: Let’s remove the words ‘clean’ and ‘declutter’ this season. Let’s just edit what we’ve got; subtract things that no longer serve you and re-arrange what is already in your home. Creating space is an often overlooked design change.

#5: Invest in Where Your Body Rests: Think “better sleep, better seating and better materials” according to Real Simple. Whether it is a new mattress, new reclining armchair or new blankets – invest in what makes you feel (and rest!) well.

Have you been inspired to refresh your space without a remodel? Which idea could you see yourself using today? We’d love to hear from you!

Cheers to small and simple changes that make a big difference,
