Monday Market Update: Surprising Stats On Investors
Real estate investors account for 1/3 of all buyers as of Q2 2025.
Happy Monday! CNBC summarized a surprising report on real estate investor data earlier this month that we’re intrigued to share with you. According to real estate data provider BatchData & CJ Patrick Co., both individual and institutional investors accounted for 1/3 of all single-family residential properties sold in Q2 of 2025. We encourage you to read the article “Investors are making up the highest share of homebuyers in 5 years” in full and have summarized a few other notable and interesting data points below.
#1: The number of real estate investor purchases jumped 27% from Q1 to Q2 2025.
#2: While the share of investor purchases is higher, the actual number of overall sales is lower. Home sales this year are weaker than this time last year; investors purchased 16,000 fewer homes yet accounted for over 30% of buyers.
#3: Real estate investors accounted for 25.7% of home buyers in all of 2024, 27% in Q1 2025 and 33% in Q2 2025.
#4: Investors also increased market inventory, as they sold over 104,000 homes – 45% of which went to traditional (non-investor) homebuyers.
#5: Small investors, owning 10 properties or less, account for 90% of the investor market.
BONUS Data Point: Texas, California and Florida have the highest number of investor-owned homes – largely because they are the most populous states.
Did you know that investors played such a large role in both home purchases and sales? They always say you learn something new every day and hopefully we added to your knowledge base in some small way… have a great week!
