Senior Spotlight: 7 Considerations For Senior Living

Ask yourself these questions before you downsize…

The Bobbi Decker Senior Spotlight is going back to our roots today as we launch into a topic that is the foundation of living longer & living better. Our ultimate intention as Senior Real Estate Specialists® has always been to help older adults decide what living situation is right for them as they age. Today’s topic touches on how to decide if a senior community is right for you, based on a recent AARP® read titled ‘7 Questions to Ask Before Moving to a 55+ Community.’ We have compiled the questions into an easy to glimpse at graphic for you below!

Before you review the considerations to ask yourself, let’s first define what a senior community is. There are a wide range of types, but ultimately, they are communities that serve adults aged 55+. Most cater to active adult lifestyles and offer a wide range of socialization and recreational opportunities onsite. The National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care reported in July 2025 that older adults are moving into senior housing at record rates (a vast change from the COVID times). Independent living communities are ‘leading the charge’ with occupancy rates over 92%.

Not all of the questions above may apply to you based on your current home & lifestyle situation. However, #1 – being ready for change – is going to be the key to how you approach this decision. Keeping an open mind and not waiting until it is too late are vital to deciding when to move and where to go next!

Best wishes,

Bobbi
