Senior Spotlight: National Make-A-Will Month Is Almost Here

The time to plan is now.

August is almost here and it is National Make-A-Will Month. While this may not be one of the easiest topics to talk about, it is one of the most important. A will is key to ensuring that your wishes are honored, that your loved ones are protected and that your legacy reflects your values and hopes for the future.

The American Heart Association states that “Without a will in place, state law dictates who gets your house, savings and other assets instead of letting you provide the direction of your final wishes.” The Federal Office of Financial Readiness reiterates that a will is critical in permitting you to name an executor to pay your bills, cancel credit cards, oversee the distribution of the state and avoid probate. There are countless other reasons why a will is necessary; our goal today is NOT to offer advice or guidance on this highly complex topic – but to encourage you to consider if you have an active, updated will and if it includes everything you want and need.

Did you know that according to Caring.com, only 25% of Americans have wills today? This is a decline from 33% in 2022. Since we always say that knowledge is action - here are some resources to inspire you to make the best choices and plans for you.

Happy 4th of July! The Bobbi Decker Team would like to start off by wishing you all weekend celebrations that are safe, memorable and meaningful! As we welcome the holiday that commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence and our nation’s birth, we deeply honor our freedoms. The 4th of July typically represents the core values of freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the right to pursue happiness. As we embrace all that is possible when we let freedom ring, may we also be mindful of the impact of not honoring one another’s differences.
