Senior Spotlight: New PBS Documentary On Caregiving
Just released on June 23, 2025.
"The caregiving experience I had with my father inspired this documentary. I came to appreciate how we need to care for caregivers better.”
~ Bradley Cooper
There are some seasons in life that impact us all – no matter where we live, what we do, how much money we have or how famous we are. Celebrity actor Bradley Cooper has just released a documentary being aired on PBS called “Caregiving” and the theme of suddenly caring for the person who raised you is one that rings true in the hearts of many of us.
While we have not yet seen this documentary, we do want to help shine a light on a topic that is life changing for many of us. We are sharing about this program so you can form your own opinion and determine the relevancy in your own life.
Next Avenue explains that “Caregiving” is “…told through a revolving frame of personal stories, interviews with policy makers, facts and figures and historical timelines [as] Cooper and the filmmakers aim to raise awareness of the caregiving crisis.”
Points of interest (and even controversy) include:
- The US position of not having standardized health insurance in relation to the caregiving crisis
- The challenge of long-distance caregiving and moving to support aging loved ones
- The isolation and overwhelm experienced by family caregivers
- The financial strain faced by the over 5 million paid caregivers (not to mention the unpaid sector!)
- The challenge of how to truly care for our caregivers better

May we gain perspective, see value and explore connectedness in a plight that is virtually impossible to avoid. We all have aging loved ones – and how we care for them, ourselves and one another is a critical conversation.
Hugs to all the caregivers out there,
