Happy Labor Day!

Success is not just about what you do for work - but who you become along the way!

Hello Friends! Labor Day weekend is here! In just a few days, many American workers will have a day off to celebrate Labor Day 2025. While it’s unofficially the ‘end’ of summer (the official last day of summer is September 22nd), it’s officially the day that pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers.

According to History.com, Labor Day was created by the labor movement for worker safety in the late 19th century, and was made a federal holiday in 1894. The US Department of Labor acknowledges that this is when we celebrate how "American labor has raised the nation’s standard of living and contributed to the greatest production the world has ever known", and advises we pay tribute to the American workers for the strength, freedom and leadership they bring to our nation, and in turn, to our country’s ideals of economic and political democracy.

For most of us personally in modern times, Labor Day is seen as a time to reflect on the work we do every day – and to enjoy a day off from work with loved ones. Really, it embodies the balance of contributing to society, making a living and living a life.

That’s why this Labor Day we are choosing to focus on the Maya Angelou quote that guides us in defining our own success. I would agree that success it not just what we do – but who we ARE.

Do we like who we are in our personal and professional lives? Do we like what we do each day… and the actions we choose in how we do it? If not – then there is much more work that needs to be done.

If you are ‘successful’ monetarily but not satisfied with who you are and what you contribute, is that the work you want to be known for? Is that the work you want to spend your life doing? On the other hand, if you love what you do and who you are while doing it – you may have reached the heights of success!

This weekend, we encourage you to think about your work, how it defines your contributions, your character and your legacy. We hope that all of the success you experience can be measured in fulfillment in what you achieve and who you have become along the way – not just dollars and cents.

Cheers to a Labor Day that celebrates hard work and intentional contributions,
