Monday Market Update: It’s Random Acts of Kindness Week

7 ways to spread positivity & compassion.

As you may know, Bobbi Decker Real Estate has always been about more than transactions of buying and selling homes, but about helping people. Success to us is never measured in dollars by always by the impact that you make in others’ lives and the joy that you create along the way. That’s why if you know us, it will be no surprise to you that we want to spread the word this week about Random Acts of Kindness Day (February 17, 2026) and Random Acts of Kindness Week (February 14 – February 20, 2026).

History

To learn about the roots of Random Acts of Kindness Day and Week, click here. In summary, the Random Acts of Kindness movement started over 40 years ago in the San Francisco Bay Area with an article published by Berkeley writer and activist Anne Herbert. The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation (RAK) was created in 1995 in the Bay Area to support annual recognition and celebrations, always taking place the week after Valentine’s Day. RAK was purchased soon after by a private foundation and moved to Denver, Colorado where it is now located.

Benefits

Before we get into countless resources and ideas on spreading kindness, we want to share the benefits. While the most important aspects may be building community and supporting others, there are benefits to the giver as well as the receiver.

Harvard Health is one of countless resources that has shared how “Some studies have indicated [kindness] can improve happiness and a sense of engagement with life, reduce symptoms of anxiety, and increase a sense of social connectedness." Much research has shown how being kind to others improves our mood, compassion, empathy and self-esteem while reducing isolation and loneliness (which has many physical health benefits!).

Ideas

There are virtually endless ways to do good and show kindness. Here are 7 ways suggested by AwarnessDays.com

1) Give Compliments:  Offer sincere compliments to friends, family, and even strangers to brighten their day.

2) Pay It Forward: When you’re at a coffee shop or drive-thru, pay for the order of the person behind you.

3) Send Thoughtful Messages: Send uplifting messages or notes to friends, reminding them of your appreciation and support.

4) Help a Neighbor: Assist a neighbor with tasks like shoveling snow, mowing their lawn, or grocery shopping.

5) Donate to Charity: Contribute to a charitable organization or cause that you’re passionate about.

6) Visit the Elderly:  Spend time with elderly individuals in nursing homes or assisted living facilities, offering companionship and a listening ear.

7) Volunteer Your Time:  Volunteer at local charities, shelters, or community events to make a positive impact.
