Here is what is NOT to come in 2026!
It’s hard to believe that there are just over 3 months left in 2025. Where has the time gone? As the next year draws closer, we have already started seeing some looks to come in 2026, including those paint colors of the year we previewed in early summer. Now we are taking a different approach as we share what Real Simple reveals will NOT be on the horizon in the new year.

Trends NOT Trending In 2026
#1: All-White Kitchens. Color and character are back at last in kitchen design. Experts predict that homeowners will continue to add warmth and depth to their kitchens via painted cabinets, natural stone with movement and varying textures throughout. Goodbye flat white and sterile.
#2: Matchy-Matchy Furniture. Remember those exact matching furniture deals with the couch and chairs and one print accent pillows? Highly coordinated is out and collected, organic style is in. Color and pattern and personal touches will now reign over highly-coordinated and dated sets. Goodbye matching everything!
#3: Open Shelving. No surprise here – open shelving was never practical and keeping them stylish is not sustainable (unless you never use the dishes!).
Managing clutter will not be a problem in 2026 as open shelving trends get replaced by vintage cabinets or smarter, statement storage pieces. Goodbye dust-collecting, cluttered shelving!
#4: Maximizing Minimalism. Less may be more, but too little is simply too impersonal! The barren, pared back look will evolve into warmer, more livable spaces. Layered, soulful and stylish will become the norm. Goodbye monochromatic minimalism!
